Hard Fought Draw for Beverley

Beverley showed great spirit to fight back and earn a draw against Skirlaugh.

On a hot humid morning and with a couple of players missing this was always going to be a tough game for Beverley who only had two substitutes against a Skirlaugh team able to call on seven replacements. Beverley's position only got worse when after five minutes Alex Moss burst through the Skirlaugh line but with the try line in his sights he pulled up abruptly with a leg injury and played no further part in the match. Beverley though continued to pressure the Skirlaugh line and a good kick by Jack Charles was picked up by Ryan Westerman who got a great pass out to Oliver Egan to cross for a try, Jack Charles converted. Beverley continued to pressure Skirlaugh with Charlie Brown, Tom Rea, Hayden Todd and Will Farr causing Skirlaugh some real problems. Unfortunately though Beverley couldn't add to their score and Skirlaugh came back strongly while excellent defence led by Archie Harwood and Sam Davis prevented a couple of tries Skirlaugh did cross twice meaning they led 10-6 at half time,

The second half started poorly for Beverley and from a cross field kick Skirlaugh scored early to take the score to 16-6. With Skirlaugh having the luxury of being able to bring on fresh players it didn't look promising for Beverley but they dug deep and showed what they are made of. A turning point for Beverley came when a high kick from Skirlaugh was brilliantly taken by John Saunders, from this point on Beverley dominated the match. The forwards again took control of the middle and with quick, accurate passing from Aaron Dibnah, Jack Charles and Will Parkinson Beverley started to create chances. They were rewarded with two excellent tries, the first scored in the left hand corner by Max Bayes and whilst the conversion was missed the second scored by Joe Coates was converted by Ryan Westerman to make the final score 16-16.

A great comeback by Beverley who had to play most the game with only one replacement in hot conditions. Man of the Match Ryan Westerman.
