Braves Lose Tight Game
On a sunny sunday morning Beverley put up a spirited performance against a strong Wyke team.
With a number of players absent Beverley had 14 players for a match played on a large pitch and in hot conditions but put up a good performance against Wyke.
Beverley started the game well despite conceding an early try with Tom and Sam both running hard and strongly at the Wyke defence. Throughout the half Wyke put a lot of pressure on Beverley with quick play the balls and strong running but the defence held strong with the whole team putting in a good defensive effort but special mention to Aaron, Archie and John who didnt take a backward step all match. Despite some pressure Beverley couldnt break an equally strong Wyke defence coming closest when Ryan made a break supported by Oliver, from the play the ball Jack and Will both went close. A few dropped balls meant Beverley had few more chances and with the last play of the half Wyke went over for their second try.
The second half was even tighter than the first with both sides managing just one try apiece. Beverleys try followed a quick play the ball with Charlie feeding Alex who went half the length of the pitch to score. Beverley continued to pressure the Wyke line with strong running from Ted, Max, Kian and Archie but the Wyke defence stayed strong. It was the defensive effort from the whole team which stood out in this performance though and despite the defeat this was a good performance from Beverley against probably the strongest team they will face.
Oliver Egan was man of the match.
